Welcome to Wonderland

Mia as Alice, Disney's Version

Tim Burton’s much anticipated “Alice in Wonderland” opens today and the world of pop culture is all a buzz. I’m not sure if this is life imitating art or art imitating life… or just a VERY good movie marketing team, but the Alice fever is going strong across all media. There is, of course, the movie but Wonderland references have been popping up recently in music, art, and most definitely in fashion. Click pictures below for larger views.

Erin Fetherson Fall 2009

Designer Erin Fetherson was ahead of the curve with her Fall 2009 collection, which was presented in February of 2009. It was so full of whimsy and even though it wasn’t explicitly Alice in Wonderland, it definitely had a little-girl-down-the-rabbit-hole vibe to it, with it’s incessant black bows, bell skirts, and white tights. The collection even had a rabbit and a jester.

Alice in Paris

There must be something especially captivating about the Alice theme to folks in fashion. Even the famous Paris department store Printemps is enraptured. The store recently devoted several windows to the theme, dressing labels like Anne Demeulemeester, Charles Anatase and Christopher Kane in Alice-inspired scenes.

Movie Costumes

Of course what we’re all really waiting for is to see costume designer Colleen Atwood’s creations come to life on the big screen. Promo photos and trailers show some exciting visuals and with the likes of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter acting in the movie, it’s sure to be a good one!
