The second Sex and the City movie has finally opened nationwide and hardcore SATC fans are buzzing about the fashion. Even though movie critics have been prone to ridicule the 2+ hours long film for it’s outlandishness and obvious fashion bend, that’s precisely what lovers of the franchise will be wanting! Here’s a preview of the goodies to be seen in the film, whose story is mostly set in Abu Dhabi (even though it was actually filmed in Morocco).

As you can see there’s a ton of color and the styling is very playful, as per usual with stylist Patricia Field. Check out the video below, in which Field talks about her inspiration for the costumes.

When it comes to highly sought after fashion, though, it’s not just the screen that has drawn the attention of fans. The film’s premiere events in cities like New York and London have had red carpets to rival even that of the Oscars… well, almost. Here are some highlights from the NYC premiere.

The season, if you can call it that, is also odd because of the way it shows – a lazy schedule spread across a few weeks. Maybe the schedule reflects the leisurely pace that one should have when on holiday. At any rate, the presentations are kicked off by major fashion houses like the legendary Chanel. Dior and Bottega Veneta have also shown, and the three are already showing strong trends signs, including the heavy use of pastel colors.

CHANEL

The Chanel collection was perfectly laid back for it’s St. Tropez location. It was full of floaty caftans and linen leisure suits. The ’70s vibe was very strong and the pastel colors were thick.

DIOR

John Galliano’s show for Dior was full of glamour. It was as he was designing for the woman who goes on vacation and does nothing but go to cocktail parties and galas. The vibe was retro, as well, but reminiscent of the ’60s. Pastels were soft and embellished with beads and sparkle.

BOTTEGA VENETA

The Bottega Veneta collection seemed to be made for the resort dweller that might be a biker during the other nine months of the year. The show mostly black and had plenty of leather (black leather for a cruise ship? hmmm). The few ventures into the realm of color were mostly bright colors, but even this show had a few pieces of creamy peach in it.

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer certainly does have an enviable life. Not only does she get paid to be glamourous, the almost 40-year-old mother has a body that people are still eager to feature on magazine covers – in the nude! A few short months after posing in her birthday suit for a Vogue Germany cover, Schiffer has given birth to her third child – a little girl, whose name had yet to be made public. The little bundle of joy is the latest edition to family that consists of Schiffer’s husband Matthew Vaughn and two little boys Caspar and Clementine, aged 7 and 5, respectively.

“I am much 
more self-confident today,” Schiffer said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag shortly before giving birth, “because of my children and my husband. I
 know what I am doing, what I want [and] I am in control of myself.”

Schiffer has also said that maintaining her model figure actually got easier after she started having children. Some people have all the luck…

There’s a reason the LBD (little black dress) is a wardrobe essential for every woman. It’s an easy go to and it can look fab for almost any occasion. It’s no surprise, then, that there were plenty of LBD at the film festival this week. Anytime an event has the word “festival” in it, there will always be some hipster-style undertones. Thankfully, though that didn’t stop some Tribeca attendees from opting for pretty party dresses. Zoe Kravitz at the Chanel dinner; Writer-Director Ruba Nadda at “Cairo Time” premiere.

First of all, it’s always best to travel light. When you’re packing you might think you’ll want 10 shoe options when you get to your destination, but once you have to do all that schlepping (not to mention baggage fees) you’ll see that being fancy free is much more satisfying. Accordingly, you should take pieces that can pull double duty and save you space in your bag.

Choose a sundress that’s casual enough for daytime, but cute enough to spruce up for a night on the town. When you go big on color and print it gives you options for interpreting the style of the dress. On the left, above: a day look with crossbody bag and flat sandals for seeing the sites. On the right: an evening look with super high heels, jazzy earrings, and a clutch just big enough for a little cash, a lipstick and your room key.

Now on the other hand, if you’re going on a beach trip that will last longer than a day, you will want to have a couple swimwear options on hand. The best way to do it is to have a bikini and a one-piece. This will allow you to hand wash and dry one suit while you’re wearing the other. It’s also good to have varying degrees of coverage. After all, vacation often means indulging in food and drink – and that can lead to bloating (time for the one-piece)!

To round out your beach essentials, pick a colorful beach towel, a big floppy hat, and a sand & water-durable bag to carry your sunscreen, snacks, and reading material.

Casual separates will be the real bed rock of your vacation wardrobe. These are comfortable enough to travel in, but you should still be glad to have your picture taken in them. Remember – the key is each piece should be interchangeable.

Cargo pants are a great option. They are very trendy now and can be dressed up or down. And, of course, you can’t miss with a basic pair of jean shorts. Last, but not least, Ghucks are a good option for lots of walking while still providing her with some hip style.

Now if you’re older than 25, and younger than 15, you might be prone to wrinkling your nose at this one. The twinset has for years been thought of as overly preppy, stuffy, or just downright old. But the prim style is making a big come back. Wear it with some slouchy distressed jeans to give it some edge.

Springtime is a beautiful season with perfect temperatures and blooms everywhere. The trade-off for spring, however, is that we also have lots of rainy days. While many of us would love to simply curl up in bed on these days, we still have to get up and go out into the world. But you don’t have to sacrifice style to face the wet outside. Use the following tips for inspiration on those cloudy spring days.

Jackets

No matter what time of year it is, jackets are essential to handling the climate. In spring they need to be lightweight, but sturdy enough to stand up to the rain and pollen that saturates the atomosphere. There are plenty of new technologies in fabrics that have created waterproof outwear that doesn’t have the slick or starchy look of a traditional rain coat. Of course, if you like to be retro or slightly childlike, the standard rubber rain jacket can still be very cute.

Rain Boots

Rain boots don’t need to be completely utilitarian anymore. Many brands – from department stores to designer labels – make their version of this age old classic and you might even see people wearing them when there’s no rain at all! The styles range from slide on mules to knee-high boots. Be sure to embrace bright colors and fun prints.

Umbrellas

Umbrellas are another item that most people regard as simply a tool, rather than a potential fashion accessory. Don’t forget how much of a presence an umbrella has in comparison to your body. Use your rain shield to add a pop of color or print to an otherwise neutral outfit. But be conscious about what you pick. If there are colors you avoid in your wardrobe, it’s best to avoid them in an umbrella as well, as the reflections they cast can affect your complexion.

Scarves

When it’s wet out, it’s not just our clothes that need protecting from the elements. Sometimes it’s our hairdos that suffer most! This problem can be solved by wearing a cotton, silk, or nylon scarf. And there’s no need to feel like you look like a grandma! This chic retro style is very on trend right now. Combine pretty AND practical and protect your hard earned coifs.
